Four Steps to Savings

West Third Group works with newspapers to identify the true in-house costs of special sections operations. We then develop flat-rate pricing — per-page, a monthly fixed fee for some services, or a hybrid of the two — for consideration. To determine savings and optimal workflow, we generally follow the process outlined below.

  • Discovery
    • Initial meeting to review scope of program
    • Overview from West Third Group about operations and opportunities
    • Key action: Executed NDA so West Third Group can perform initial analysis
    • Key deliverable: Initial analysis and savings calculation
  • Beta Testing
    • Fixed number of sections during a 45- to 90-day window; no staffing changes
    • WTG performs editing, design and writing duties; fixed-fee agreement recovers costs
    • Key action: Verify workflow costs and efficiencies
    • Key deliverable: Special sections that form the basis of firm pricing
  • Finalized Pricing
    • Developed based on information gathered during beta
    • Risks/rewards balanced; changeover schedule established
    • Key action: Finalized custom pricing and contract terms
    • Key deliverable: Contract for execution
  • Roll-Out
    • Initiated based on specifics established in the pricing and negotiation phase
    • Key action: Transition to managed model
    • Key deliverable: Lower-cost, scalable sections and/or publication operations
